AKC Hunt Test Advisory Committee Makes New Appointment

The American Kennel Club Hunt Test Advisory Committee is pleased to announce a new appointments to its group.  Robert (Bob) Montler of Pennsylvania has agreed to serve in this volunteer position.

Doug Ljungren, AKC Executive  VP Sports and Events has appointed Robert (Bob) W. Montler for this vacancy. Montler met all the criteria for the position which included being an 8 point Master judge, in good standing with the AKC, an ‘active’ judge (judged recently), qualified multiple dogs at master level and is active in local retriever club(s). Additionally, each is familiar with the AKC Regulations for Retriever Hunting Tests, has the ‘big picture’ of the program and has proven they can interact with people successfully.

Montler has been involved in the AKC Retriever Hunt Test program for more than two decades. He has trained, run and qualified dogs at both the Master National and Master Amateur events. He was first approved as a Retriever Hunt Test Judge in 2001 and as a Spaniel Field Trial Judge in 2003. With his experience across multiple venues he brings a unique perspective to this committee.  He also played a significant role in the formation of the Master Amateur Retriever Club.

“With his experience in business he helped this fledgling organization move forward and adapt to a changing hunt test environment. In my experience Bob can navigate fine detail as well as focus on the big picture. He is one of the rare individuals who can set aside his own best interest for the good of the whole, ” said Jack D. Combs, Chair of the RHTAC.

In his professional life Bob is the retired CEO of Lee Industries, a world-class Process Equipment company. Bob currently serves on the Board of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center (UPMC) and has helped them navigate several mergers and acquisitions.

Bob will replace Keith Maready as he completes his term as Eastern Time Zone representative.  Keith did a great job during his tenure and brought a thoughtful and balanced approach to the many issues this group has considered. We are all grateful for the time, leadership and professionalism Keith brought to this committee.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  It is the responsibility of the RHT Advisory Committee to provide input to the AKC Performance Events Department with regard to the Retriever Hunting Test Regulations. This may involve clarification of existing Regulations or new Regulations that are felt to enhance the sport. Topics for Advisory Committee discussion may originate from RHT participants or from the Committee members
themselves. The Performance Events Department may also direct ideas to the Committee for consideration.
