On behalf of the Master National Retriever Club, the Board of Directors would like to express their sympathy to the family and friends of Larry Buettner.
Larry died on March 25that his farm near Webb, Iowa. He was 67 years old.
Known to many of us at “The Duck Man,” Larry was often seen at Master National hunt tests delivering quality game birds to our clubs. Larry’s business allowed him to travel over 6 million miles and make many great friends in the sporting dog world across the country.
He was an avid outdoorsman, which led him to convert his family farm into a game bird and shooting preserve in 1967. Thanks to his love of nature, his property was turned into a wildlife haven for generations to come.
His family says Larry‘s “Love of hunting and fishing led him to northern South Dakota where he purchased a lake property and spent many days enjoying God’s bounty at his land there with family and friends. Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting geese–particularly at the Lower Brule Reservation in South Dakota, attending sporting events of his sons, and planning treasure hunts for his grandchildren. Larry’s favorite and most important pastime was studying the Bible and yearned to learn the true meaning of God’s Word.”
Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons: Kiley (Denyce) Buettner of Garretson, South Dakota; Beau (Sara) Buettner of Webb, Iowa; Kenley (fiancée, Miranda Rasmussen) Buettner of Webb, Iowa; sisters: Connie Jo (Geoff) Haaland of Lyles, Tennessee; Becky (Tim) Christy of Burns, Tennessee; grandchildren: Braden, Rebekah, Ian, and Michael; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends who shared in his life.
We will all remember Larry when we see those pheasants fly quick and high. We have lost a very kind friend.
